farm-to-fork kitchen principles

Have you ever thought about where your food comes from? Usually, even a simple dinner involves several different ingredients sourced from many places far away. Take a bowl of noodles for example. Where was the wheat grown? How about the greens? Or the mushroom? Do you know how they are grown? These are things that most urban dwellers don’t think about. We take food for granted. Farm-to-table is a social movement which encourages people to source food ingredients from local producers and promote food traceability. There are several reasons why we suggest that farm-to-table concept is the better way to live and eat.

GREATER APPRECIATION OF FOOD

With urbanisation, more and more people are becoming out of touch how food is produced and don’t appreciate the toil and resources that has been poured into growing food. Wasting food is not a big deal. Through first-hand experience at the farm, we hope to instil a greater sense of appreciation for food.

FRESHER AND HEALTHIER FOOD

Farm-to-table also promotes fresher and healthier food. This is because the food are sourced locally and hence fresher. It’s also healthier because the farmer is accountable to the end-user and will pay more attention to sustainable practices such as organic or pesticide-free practices.

BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

All this is good not just for us, it is also for the environment. By eating local produce grown in a sustainable way, we reduce carbon footprint due to transportation and also protect the land from toxic contamination.

Omakase / No Menu Kitchen Concept

‘Omakase’ is a Japanese dining style where you let the chef decide what to serve you rather than making that choice yourself. In the Japanese language the word actually means “I will leave it to you”. In Indonesian the equivalent word for this is ‘terserah’.

The meals in Sukasantai follows this concept. The menu depends on what is available in season. Since the vegetables are sourced from the farm, they are very fresh. Our food has no MSG added or artificial flavouring or colouring.

We also reduce single-use packaging wherever possible to reduce the amount of waste we generate. In this way, we try to make our food as healthy and eco-friendly as possible.

Nevertheless, we also cater for special dietary requirements. Vegetarian and vegan meal options are available upon request. If you have any special dietary requirements, please leave us a message at the time of booking. Complimentary breakfast are available for overnight stays. Join us and experience eco-friendly eating!
